Some of our favorite hikes in the Red River Gorge include the iconic arch at Sky Bridge, the sweeping ridgeline views along Auxier Ridge, and the quiet beauty of Laurel Ridge Trail. Each offers a different perspective of the Gorge—from dramatic overlooks to shaded forest paths—and all are well worth carving out a few hours to explore.

Kate's Kritters Petting Zoo is a hands-on, family-friendly experience where visitors can meet and interact with a variety of friendly animals. From goats and bunnies to some very opinionated donkeys, it’s a chance to connect with nature up close and make some furry new friends. Perfect for kids—and the kid in all of us—it’s a joyful stop in the heart of the Red River Gorge. Splurge for the carrots!!

A boardwalk of small shops tucked among the trees near the Gorge and a fun place to wander, snack, and pick up a unique souvenir. The village features about 14 locally owned shops offering everything from coffee and sweet treats to outdoor gear, handmade gifts, and even gem mining and goat feeding. It’s an easy, family-friendly stop if you’re looking to explore a little local charm between adventures in the Gorge.

Gem mining at Red River Gorge Earth Shop lets you sift through sand to uncover crystals, minerals, and hidden treasures to take home. Each bucket comes with a mix of gems—from amethyst to arrowheads—and a guide to help identify your finds. It’s an easy, family-friendly stop that adds a little adventure (and sparkle) to your time in the Gorge.
Take in the beauty of the Gorge from a different perspective with a guided horseback ride through the woods and along scenic trails. Cable's Riding Stables offers relaxed, beginner-friendly rides (typically about an hour) that are perfect for all experience levels. It’s a peaceful, memorable way to slow down and experience the landscape—no riding experience required.
This weekend is all about your own adventure—while we’ll have a few special events planned, most activities are open for you to explore at your own pace. Hike, climb, zipline, or simply relax and take in the Gorge; the choice is yours. It’s your chance to follow your curiosity and make the weekend your own.
